The event was organized by the European & International Programs Office of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Piraeus in the framework of the pan European Erasmus Days 2024 celebration. The exceptionally successful open day event took place at Ralleio amphitheater on the 18th of October 2024 and was attended by a large number of directors, assistant directors, teachers and educational advisors.

The event was addressed by the Director of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Piraeus Dr Dionysios Anastasopoulos. His address was followed by the presentation of the initiatives, actions, activities and synergies implemented so far by the Office and those scheduled for school year 2024-25, in accordance to the Internationalization Strategy of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Peiraias, by its three officers, Dr Maria Karyotaki, Educational Advisor for Economics at the Directorate, Dr Eleni Tsourapa, Greek Language teacher and former programs specialist at the Hellenic Foundation for Research & Innovation and Ms Katerina Christodoulou, English Language teacher, UNESCO ASPnet Focal Point for the Directorate, UNESCO Culture Sector Individual Expert in ICH & school education.

The next speaker was University of Piraeus Professor Foteini Asderaki, coordinator of Jean Monnet project MOTIVATE: Motivating Teachers4Europe. It is an innovative project in the framework of Jean Monnet actions run under the Erasmus+ program to support teaching, learning, research and debates on various aspects of the European Union. MOTIVATE is coordinated by the Research Centre of the University of Piraeus (UPRC) and was designed and is implemented by the Jean Monnet Chair for European Union Policies on Education, Training, Research and Innovation and the Laboratory for Education Policy, Research, Development and Interuniversity Cooperation, Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus. In her intervention, Professor Asderaki presented the project and its open access microlearning platform for school teachers.

The first part of the event continued with the presentations of Erasmus+ KA1 and KA2 school education and VET projects implemented at ten schools of the Directorate by their coordinators. The audience was impressed by the elements of originality, innovation, versatility and creativity showcased in the ten projects, and their contribution to the extrovert school culture of the implementing schools. The presentations were followed by the intervention of Dr Dimitrios Kalaitzidis, Director of Ralleio Junior High School of Piraeus, who focused on Sustainable School and its contribution to a holistic school culture of extroversion. The event ended with a round table discussion coordinated by the three Officers with the participation of Dr Kalaitzidis.
